Athletics
Carpe Diem Academy has an athletics day every year in cooperation with our neighbouring schools where learners have the opportunity to compete with learners from other schools in a variety of track and field events
Chess
Carpe Diem has an in-house chess competition every year as well as friendly exhibition against a rival school. Learners need not be experts to compete in these events, it is there to be enjoyed and to develop new skills. The in-house competition lets learners play for the top spot in their respective classes after which the grade champions are determined. They compete for the title of School Champion. Learners get very excited in the third term as they cannot wait for chess week to start.
Table Tennis
This is also one of the sports that our learners look forward to playing. They cannot wait for the Table Tennis week/competition. Here is where they show one another who is the boss and who is better than the other one. We also have an internal house competition that happens within the junior and senior phase. Learners play their hearts out to be the winner of the phase.
Hiking Tours
Our calendar includes a grade 10 and 12 hiking trip each year to the Kingdom Trails in the Loskop area. The learners are accompanied by several staff members of Carpe Diem Academy who are first aid trained with hiking experience. Our aim with these trips is to promote class/team spirit amongst the learners. The hiking trip is a fun activity that helps build character and bonds between the learners.
Culture
Learners are encouraged to develop themselves and learn to socialize with their peers. Various events are arranged throughout the year with some regular events being firm favourites with the learners.
Carpies got Talent
Every year we host our talent show ‘Carpies Got Talent’. Whether it be singing, dancing, or anything else under the sun, this is a great opportunity for learners to express their creativity and showcase their extraordinary skills. We hope that in participating, learners can grow in confidence and also inspire other learners to pursue avenues to express their creativity.
International Day
We want to encourage our learners to expand their horizons by experiencing and learning to appreciate other cultures. In the third term each class has a random country assigned to them which they should research. In the weeks that follow learners take time in their various groups to prepare for International Day, where they get the opportunity to have a exhibit on their assigned country, sell one of its local cuisines and also perform a dance associated with the culture.
Games Night
Once per term, a large number of school learners and staff get together for ‘ Games Night ‘. It starts on Friday afternoon after school and through the night until early the Saturday morning. It is a nice evening of socializing, eating pizza and playing a range of Boardgames, computer and card games.
Eco Club
The purpose of the eco-club at Carpe Diem academy is to take small groups of learners on short hikes around Pretoria. Their experience will bring them closure to nature and introduce them to the joys of hiking. They will be shown the basics of hiking and also made aware of the detrimental effects of pollution, invasive plants and other enviromental problems.
